When technology is developing rapidly like today, especially for digital technology, many startup companies have emerged with various innovations that they bring. Starting from fintech companies engaged in financial services and e-commerce which is the digitization of businesses in the real sector.

Startup is a startup company built from the ground up. The startup business field is closely related to digital technology which makes it different from conventional companies. Therefore, in this era, when the development of digital technology is growing rapidly, startup companies are mushrooming everywhere. Even in 2021, there are around 2,229 startup companies operating and it is possible that the number will get even bigger in the future.

In addition to the field of business, startup companies have a management structure that is somewhat different from conventional companies. However, thanks to these differences, startup companies are able to grow at lightning speed and turn into a company with a large market capitalization value in just a few years.

Usually, in a startup company, there are 3 main roles that are responsible for the rapid development of a startup. These roles include, namely, Hustler, Hacker and Hipster

What is Hustler?

Hustler is the person who is responsible for building the team in a startup, managing all the work, establishing the business model and being the leader of the team. In short, a hustler is a person who is responsible for ensuring the startup company’s profits.

Hustler is also known as CEO (Chief Executive Officer), a position that is identical in the startup world. Hustler or CEO has a central role and is the center of startup performance. Because Hustler or CEO has influence over the running of the organization in the company as a whole.

Because of the importance of the position of Hustler or CEO, someone who occupies this position is required to have a good vision for the company, both short and long term. In addition, a CEO or Hustler is also required to be keen to see opportunities, have a leadership spirit and have high wisdom.

Hustler or CEO is the highest position in a startup. Even the CEO position is higher than other high positions, such as director or president director. Because in general, the position of Hustler or CEO is held by the founder of a startup company, who is usually also the owner of the idea of the company’s initial business.

Hustler Tasks

As the leader of a startup, Hustler certainly has an important task. Some of the common tasks we have discussed before, in the discussion above. But, besides that, Hustler also has several special tasks, including:

* Create and execute organizational strategy.
* Building an executive Team.
* Make decisions regarding capital allocation.
* Create a vision and mission of the company.

Actually each Hustler task for each startup may be different. However, basically startup tasks cannot be separated from these 4 things. Some Hustler startup companies may have more, but not fewer than 4.

What are Hackers?

The term hacker in startup is not a network hacker, as we know so far. Hacker refers to the position of Chief Technical Officer (CTO) in a startup company. The term Hacker is used because it is closely related to the CTO field of work which is the highest position for technology matters.

The hacker or CTO is responsible for making decisions regarding the entire technology infrastructure. Hackers play an important role in the development of startups, considering that the startup business itself always deals with digital technology. Therefore, the role of hackers is needed to build startups, especially from a digital ecosystem standpoint.

Even though it is a high position in a startup company, Hacker is still a person who works under the leadership of a CEO or Hustler. However, even so, a Hacker still has great influence and a high position in the startup organizational hierarchy.

Hacker Duties and Responsibilities

As a company executive, Hacker or CTO certainly has tasks and responsibilities that are not easy. Therefore, a hacker is required to have understanding and skills that support technology, management skills and leadership.

The Duties and Responsibilities of a Hacker or CTO are as follows:

* Determine and design a platform that will support a startup’s business.
* Manage Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and DevOps.
* Recruiting and Building an IT Team.
* Maintain the security of applications, company data and others from hacking.
* Test the product or service.

That was a common task of a hacker or CTO. Just like the CEO, the CTO may also have specific and different tasks for each startup. However, the point is that the CTO is the person in charge of the startup company’s business platform. Both in terms of smoothness, security, design and others.

What is a Hipster?

Hipsters in the startup world act as creators of application designs and interfaces. The position of a hipster in a startup is CDO or Chief Design Officer. This term may be very rarely heard. However, thanks to the CDO’s role, a startup platform has a good design and is comfortable for users to use.

The role of the CDO goes beyond just making products that look good and enhance the user experience. But also apply marketing methods in making product designs to increase product sales. This method is a more modern marketing strategy, unlike the old method which only focuses on marketing products on various social media.

CDO or Hipster is also sometimes referred to as DEO, Design Executive Officer. CDO is also an executive position in a startup company, just like CTO or hacker. Therefore, CDOs also have a big influence on the business development of startup companies.

Hipster Task

Because it is one of the pillars in a startup company, the duties and responsibilities of a Hipster are not lighter than a Hacker. A hipster must have skills and an understanding of design. Even understanding the customer journey and its relationship with design is also needed, considering that Hipster’s role is not just making product designs, but also implementing marketing strategies in these designs. Apart from that, a Hipster or CDO must also have management skills, good vision, be creative, innovative, have a high sense of leadership and wisdom.

The duties and responsibilities of the Hipster are as follows:

* Form and Manage Design Team.
* Make Product Design in accordance with company goals.
* Implement Marketing in product design.

Conclusion

So, Hustler, Hacker and Hipster are roles that have a big impact on the development of a startup. Even if a startup loses one or does not have a competent person to occupy that role, the startup will have poor performance and find it difficult to compete with competitors. In the end the startup will lose its customers and go bankrupt. Therefore, in a startup company, there must be competent people who play these 3 roles.
